Cradle Mountain Wildlife 4 Day TASafari (departing from Launceston)
Discover the rare and exotic native wildlife of Tasmania. Using reference material, your own checklists and a keen eye, explore the country that is the Cradle Mountain highlands in a way that exposes new views, uncovers pioneering history and introduces the world of native fauna in a way that is most beneficial for its appreciation and survival. This tour starts and finishes in Launceston. Stay away from the crowds on a beautiful private bush property, enjoy a hike, see wildlife in the wild and relax with a roast dinner in front of the campfire...
Day 1 (L,D)
- Pick up from accom in Launceston at 7:am.
- Travel along the base of the Great Western Tier — short walks and stunning views
- Afternoon walk at Cradle Mountain and hopefully see a wombat, wallaby or an echidna in the wild.
- Settle into base camp at Black Jack property. Campfire dinner and surrounded by nocturnal wildlife
Day 2 (B,L,D)
- A full day walk in the mountains to discover the world that is home to a range of endemic birds, reptiles, marsupials and monotremes.
- Afternoon explore the meandering trails around our camp — identify animal pads, prints, scats and homes.
- A well earned dinner feast around the campfire then sleep under bright stars.
Day 3 (B,L,D)
- Early walk to the Iris River where we try and glimpse a platypus.
- Afternoon option to visit Tasmanian Devil sanctuary or explore the Cradle Mountain NP visitor centre
- Another evening dining by firelight with our nocturnal friends.
Day 4 (B,L)
- Pack up and head north. From the highlands to the coast we witness the diversity of Tasmanian habitats Narawntapu National Park nature walk and a look at coastal habitats and animals that live here.
- Lunch and a swim then to the Tamar Valley for an afternoon of tidal wetlands bird watching
- Drop off to accom in Launceston late in the afternoon. (Evening penguin sighting tour option may be available)
